QUEENS, NY - A single-car fire outside a Queens auto body shop turned into a three-alarm fire as flames extended into the structure on November 28th.

Shortly before 2:00 A.M., companies were dispatched to 38-21 23rd St. for a report of a fire in an auto body shop. First due E-260 gave a 10-75 for a heavily involved auto with some extension into the 100' X 100' two-story structure. Two lines were stretched and soon had water on the fire and were checking for extension. Fire was discovered in the roof area and an “All Hands" was transmitted at 2:16 A.M., followed by a second-alarm at 2:20 A.M. as heavy fire was located in the rear.

A third-alarm was sounded as flames broke through the roof in the rear. Two tower ladders were set up and an apartment building on the 'D' side was evacuated. By 2:49 A.M., the heavy fire was darkening down. Four additional trucks above the third-alarm were called in for relief and overhaul. The fire was placed PWH at 3:41 A.M., and under control one hour later.
