New Firefighters Sworn In and Members Honored in Falmouth

Falmouth, MA — November 11 —The Falmouth Fire Rescue Department held an Awards and Recognition Ceremony on Monday to honor new members, recent accomplishments, and actions that helped save a life. Before the newly recruited firefighters were sworn in and pinned, Chief Smith kicked off the festivities. Family members pinned badges on firefighters Eric Abrantes, Douglas Capozzoli, Thomas Lanman, Craig Farmer, Shawn Haislet, Matthew Horn, Jennifer Bartels, Anthony Gardina, and Brendan Spillane.

Firefighter Brian Guthrie and Lieutenant Christopher Brown, who recently retired, were recognized for their years of community service. Firefighters Justin Golden and Jake Hanafin received recognition for attaining their paramedic certificates.

Acting Lieutenant and Acting Fire Inspector Jay Frisbee, Acting Lieutenant Nicholas Zimmerman, Acting EMS Supervisor Randy Koslowsky, and Lieutenant Jonathan Borselli, who has been elevated to permanent lieutenant, were also honored. Borselli was also awarded for his acting work in 2024 and 2025. The department also honored the community members who made and donated "Firefighter Jake," which is currently on display at headquarters, and the Apparatus Committee for their efforts on new boat and engine projects. James Thomas was welcomed as the department's new chaplain.

A lifesaving award was presented to Deputy Chief Scott Thrasher, Captain Sean Ellis, Firefighter/Paramedics Abijah Herrin and Carlos Oliveira, and Firefighter/EMTs Lucinda Quigley and Douglas Capozzoli. Their coordinated actions, along with immediate CPR and AED use by bystanders, contributed to the survival of a patient in cardiac arrest at Falmouth Academy on May 16.
