Bushkill, PA — October 29 — A report of a family cat stuck within a chimney prompted Bushkill Volunteer Fire Company to react on Wednesday. When personnel arrived, they found "Smokey," the cat, perched atop the chimney damper and unable to get out. In order to access the area without causing damage to the surrounding stonework or the fireplace, firefighters used lights and small hand tools. Smokey was retrieved securely and given back to the homeowners unharmed after steady progress and well-coordinated care.

Crews quickly removed the scene because there was no need for structural repair or ventilation. In order to lower the possibility of animals entering from above or below, the fire company advises residents to inspect chimney screens and closures as the use of fireplaces increases with colder weather.
