Danville, PA — November 18 — On Tuesday afternoon, the Valley Township Fire Department responded to a forest fire near Hilkert Road in Liberty Township. When the four members arrived, they discovered a fire burning through undergrowth and leaves near the edge of a wooded area. To prevent the spread and safeguard adjacent residential property, crews employed brush tools, rakes, and portable water.
The fire did not spread into any trees or buildings; it stayed on the forest floor. In order to stop rekindling in dry leaf litter, crews worked the perimeter and removed hot spots. The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources reports that dry fuel beds created by collected leaves and low humidity continue to cause late-fall brush fires.
