On November 16, 2025, McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Company Engine 156 responded to Cowans Gap after reports of a campfire that had extended into the surrounding wooded area. Crews arrived to find a section of forest floor burning and quickly deployed handlines to contain the spread. Firefighters worked to fully extinguish hot spots and ensure no further extension into the hillside. No injuries were reported, and the scene was cleared after thorough overhaul. The company reminds visitors to fully extinguish campfires and follow all outdoor burning guidelines.
