November 21, 2025 —Mountain Lake Fire Company reported that it remains a fully volunteer organization, emphasizing that its members not only respond to emergencies, attend ongoing training, and participate in fundraising efforts, but also fulfill extensive administrative responsibilities required by state and local regulations. According to the company, volunteer firefighters and officers routinely manage operational, business, and compliance obligations — often on their own time, at their own expense, and sometimes even taking time off from work to meet departmental needs.

The department noted that despite the demanding workload, criticism of volunteer emergency services still exists within the community. Leadership encouraged residents to recognize the sacrifices made by volunteers and to continue supporting their local fire departments, stressing that community members may one day rely on their service.

The Mountain Lake Fire Company reiterated its pride in serving the community and expressed gratitude to those who appreciate and stand behind volunteer first responders.
