Philadelphia, PA — October 23 — When Engine 45 arrived at Box 4509 at 29th and Lehigh Avenue, they discovered severe fire in the back of a two-story house, prompting the Philadelphia Second Alarmers to respond. In order to open up and halt the development of the fire, crews employed roof access and stretched inside lines while operating a 2&2 service. Because the buildings along the block are closely spaced, companies also safeguarded exposures on both sides.

During suppression and overhaul, the Second Alarmers Rehab Unit at 2900 Roberts Avenue offered on-site assistance. As rescue companies came, firefighters alternated between chilling, drinking and medical monitoring before rejoining the queue. Following an overhaul and final safety inspections, businesses were cleared to resume operations without any major injuries to employees.
