November 11, 2025 —Glen Rock Fire Department reported that the fall session of the Citizens Fire Academy successfully concluded on Tuesday. The program, operated jointly by the Fair Lawn and Glen Rock Fire Departments, offers community members hands-on insight into the roles, responsibilities, and training of local firefighters.
According to the department, participants completed six instructional sessions covering Engine Company operations, Truck Company operations, vehicle extrication, fire extinguisher use, and SCBA and rescue procedures—all conducted in a controlled, safe learning environment. The academy is designed to increase understanding of fire service preparedness and broaden community engagement.
Some participants indicated that they intend to pursue volunteer membership with their local fire department, a result the departments described as a rewarding outcome of the program. All attendees reported enjoying the experience.
The Citizens Fire Academy is offered each fall, and those interested are encouraged to watch for registration information next summer.
