Colonie, New York- On November 11, 2025, at 7:11 AM, The Boght Fire Company, Latham Fire Department, Colonie Village Fire Company for the Fast Team, Verdoy Fire Department, Halfmoon-Waterford Fire Department and Colonie Emergency Medical Services was dispatched to 543 Columbia Street Extension. The caller reported the house was on fire. The first arriving chief on scene notified the dispatcher that he had heavy fire showing out the rear of the structure and immediately declared a signal thirty for a working structure fire. The first arriving engine immediately took the driveway and laid in to the scene.
Firefighters immediately deployed a 2-inch hand line through the side door into the house. Command was able to confirm everybody was out of the structure and accounted for other than a cat. Quickly following behind the first due engine was the truck company as they established the water supply for the scene. Firefighters conducted in aggressive interior attack knocking down the heavy fire condition inside of the structure. Firefighters continued to knock down all of the remaining fire. Command placed the Maplewood Fire Department on standby in their station. As firefighters were conducting a secondary search of the home, they discovered the family’s cat and rescued it and brought it out to safety.
Firefighters on scene began to pull apart the siding on the side of the building as they still had smoke coming from it. Firefighters utilized the hand line to hit hotspots behind the siding. Firefighters conducted overhaul in the area of where a woodstove was and on the outside of the home. Firefighters inside of the structure continue to conduct overhaul for an extended period of time making sure there was no hidden fire in the walls. No injuries were reported. The Town of Colonie Fire Services is working to determine the cause of the fire. Due to the rapid response from the first due engine company and the aggressive tactics used by the firefighters on scene, firefighters were able to bring this incident under control before the fire could spread throughout the home. All units went back into service later in the morning.
