Overnight Entrapment Requires Multi-Agency Rescue Effort

Penn Hills, Pa. — November 3 — Stations 122 and 302 were dispatched to William Penn Highway at Lower Rodi Road at 1:30 a.m. for a motor vehicle accident involving entrapment and possible fire after a police pursuit. Rescue 194 and Engine 227 were dispatched after reports indicated that the vehicle had traveled about 40 feet over a hillside and landed on its roof. Crews from 302 arrived to discover the driver still inside the smoking vehicle, and they began arranging access down the slope.
Firefighters from 194, 227, and 302 collaborated with Penn Hills EMS and Wilkins EMS to remove the operator and place the patient in a Stokes basket for the journey back up the hillside. The motorist was sent to a local trauma facility with moderate injuries. 122 Chief held command, while 302 Chief managed activities. Police from Churchill, Wilkins, and Penn Hills assisted at the scene.
