Upper St. Clair, Pa. — November 5 — As the weather begins to drop, the Upper St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department reminds citizens to have their furnaces, fireplaces, and wood stoves examined before heavy winter use. According to fire officials, periodic maintenance prevents malfunctions and lowers the danger of carbon monoxide occurrences and chimney fires.

The department also emphasized space heater safety, urging residents not to plug heaters into power strips or extension cords, which can overheat and fail. Firefighters continue to stress the importance of checking smoke detectors ahead of the winter months to ensure homes remain protected.
