Bradford, Pa. — November 12 — The Lt. Joseph P. DiBernardo Memorial Foundation and the Leary Firefighters Foundation awarded Bradford City Firefighters, 25 Chestnut St., Bradford, Pennsylvania, a gift of $18,226.60 to buy 28 firefighter bailout kits. The personal escape systems, which were purchased from Fire Innovations, are intended to provide firemen with a quick and safe way out in the event that interior conditions worsen and there is no other way out.
Due to evolving fire dynamics and the difficulties posed by contemporary lightweight construction, bailout devices have become standard equipment in various departments across the country. When a fireman encounters a potentially fatal interior situation, the kits enable them to anchor, descend, and arrive at a safer area.
