Fair Lawn Chiefs Make Rescue of Elderly Invalid Man

FAIR LAWN, NJ - The Fair Lawn Fire Dept., under the command of Chief Rinaldo, responded to the scene of a working house fire on 28th St., November 17th.
First arriving police units observed heavy smoke coming from the front door, and a working fire was called. First arriving Assistant Chief Mike Salvini and Deputy Chief Marc Palmieri entered the home, searched and located an elderly invalid male victim in a 2nd floor bedroom.
Together they removed the victim from the room and brought him outside. He was placed in a chair and covered with blankets from neighbors, with temperatures outside ranging in the 40s. He was given oxygen at the scene and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Assistant Chief Salvini also received oxygen and was evaluated and released by Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
The fire was placed under control quickly, as it was a bedroom contents fire. The Fair Lawn Fire Prevention Bureau is conducting an investigation in to the cause of the fire.
