Port Royal, Pa. — November 4 — A woods fire was reported, so Friendship Fire Company No. 1 was sent to Oxbow Road in Spruce Hill Township. One acre of light brush and leaf litter was the original estimate. Before personnel could slow the growth and establish control, the fire had grown to around 2.5 acres due to changing weather.
In order to deliver water, carry out line work and secure the perimeter, Tanker 1 and Brush 1 worked alongside Tankers 5 and 7, Brush 5 and 7, and Perry 3. The combination of tankers and brush units allowed for consistent rural wilderness operations, which are typical in the area in the autumn.
