Westfield Fire and Police Respond to Kitchen Fire on Fairacres Avenue
October 27, 2025 — At approximately 4:17 p.m. on Monday, the Westfield Fire Department was dispatched to the 800 block of Fairacres Avenue for a report of smoke inside a residence. While units were en route, Fire Dispatch advised that an active kitchen fire had been confirmed.
The first fire unit arrived on scene at 4:21 p.m., finding a 2.5-story single-family home with smoke showing from the front door.
Firefighters entered the structure and encountered a heavy smoke condition on Division 1. Crews quickly located the main body of fire actively burning in the kitchen and initiated an aggressive interior attack while simultaneously conducting a search to ensure that all occupants had safely evacuated.
Three pets were reported to be inside the home. Members of the Westfield Fire Department, with assistance from the Westfield Police Department, safely removed all three animals from the structure.
Due to the conditions and the need for additional manpower, the incident was elevated to a second alarm, bringing Union County Fire Mutual Aid companies to the scene. Additional resources were staged at Fire Headquarters to cover the town, and off-duty Westfield personnel were recalled to assist. Police officers also provided traffic control and secured the scene.
The fire was placed under control at 4:40 p.m., though firefighters remained on scene into the early evening to conduct overhaul operations and ensure the fire had not extended beyond the kitchen.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Westfield Fire Prevention Bureau and the Westfield Police Department. The Westfield Construction Department also responded to the scene for evaluation.
