New Castle, Pa. — October 24 — For a rigorous day of heavy-extrication training, the Hickory Township Volunteer Fire Department travelled to Crash Course Village in Fairborn, Ohio. Advanced methods for school-bus breaches, cement-truck lifts, semi-truck stabilisation, and moving big concrete loads using cribbing, pry bars, and rollers were all addressed in the eight-hour course. Additionally, crews performed controlled lifts for trapped-victim situations and evaluated winch operations.
As motor vehicle incidents rise in Hickory Township, instructors guided members through practical exercises intended to improve the department's response capability. The department praised the community for its ongoing support, including donations of aluminium cans that help defray travel expenses for specialised programs, and acknowledged Jeff, Tommy, and Tom for giving their time to support the training.
