New Castle, Pa. — October 17 — Following complaints of smoke and flames coming from a single-family home, New Castle Firefighters Local 160 responded to a residential structure fire on the south side of the city. In order to start suppression, arriving firefighters set up a water supply and deployed many handlines. While internal crews tried to contain the fire, primary and secondary searches were finished.
During suppression and overhaul, the North Beaver Fire Department and the Shenango Area Fire District provided mutual-aid assistance by sending extra personnel. Crews stayed on the scene for a lengthy refurbishment phase before resuming service due to extension into hidden areas.
