Mount Cobb, Pa. — November 11 — A vehicle-into-a-bridge collision near mile marker 13 prompted Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Company Station 29 to react to Interstate 84. Rescue 29 was hit by a passing car that lost control on black ice as rescuers were helping the victims of the initial collision. The accident caused a chain reaction crash involving multiple other vehicles, although no rescuers were hurt. Elmhurst-Roaring Brook, Covington Ambulance, and Hamlin Fire & Rescue mutual-aid units helped when PennDOT closed the interstate due to icing conditions. The road was reopened as conditions improved after Rescue 29 incurred rear damage.
