Moosic, Pa. — October 28 — On Interstate 81, close to mile marker 182, the Greenwood Fire Department responded to a tractor-trailer fire. When crews arrived, they discovered tires, a portion of the hardwood trailer floor and the back tandem axle area on fire. While units were travelling, it was confirmed that the caravan included 35 live animals. The fire was swiftly put out by Engine 98, enabling the recall of more water-supply units. The incident was turned over to Lackawanna EMA, Pennsylvania State Police, PennDOT, and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture for roadway management and follow-up after several animals were lost.
