Pittsburgh, Pa. — November 2 —Just after 2:30 p.m., the Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS rescue division was sent to the Monongahela Incline after reports that both rail cars had stalled on the tracks. Paramedics who arrived on the scene found that one car had five passengers and the other had twenty-four, all needing help. Because the situation was complicated, the EMS technical rescue group was asked to assist the paramedics and set up staging areas at both the upper and lower stations.

By around 4:30 p.m., rescue paramedics had completed a rope-based operation to get the five passengers out of the upper car. During this time, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire came to help with the rescue efforts. Firefighters used a ladder truck to reach the lower car, working with EMS to safely bring each person to the ground.

The last passenger was removed around 6:00 p.m. All individuals were assessed on scene by EMS staff, and no injuries were reported. Fire and EMS officials pointed out that the teamwork showed the importance of training together and having established rescue protocols for complicated transportation incidents.
