Greenwich, N.Y. — October 10 — On Fire Prevention Day, the Greenwich Fire Department, Middle Falls Fire, Cossayuna Fire, Easton Greenwich Rescue Squad, and the New York State Forest Rangers visited Greenwich Central School. This year's national theme, "Charge Into Fire Safety", which emphasizes the safe handling, charging, and recycling of lithium-ion batteries, was explained to the students. Additionally, Smokey the Bear appeared to help reaffirm important safety lessons. In order to promote fire safety throughout the community, the event placed a strong emphasis on early education and teamwork.
