Port Washington, N.Y. — October 9 — This week, the Port Washington Fire Department visited all five elementary schools across the district to teach students about fire prevention and home safety. Firefighters spoke with classes about smoke alarms, escape plans, and how to stay calm during emergencies.

The outreach was part of Fire Prevention Month, giving students a chance to meet firefighters and learn practical ways to stay safe at home. While Fire Prevention Week has ended, the department continues its educational efforts throughout October to keep safety awareness strong across the community.
