Old Saybrook, Conn. — October 7 —At 9:35 a.m. Wednesday, the Old Saybrook Fire Department responded on a mutual aid assignment to assist the Essex Fire Department with a building fire on Plains Road. Engine 1 and Ladder 1 were dispatched to the scene, where Old Saybrook crews supported Essex firefighters with fire suppression and overhaul operations.
Before Essex units arrived to fully extinguish the fire, the building's automatic fire sprinkler system was able to contain the fire. Before going back into service, Old Saybrook staff helped to make sure the area was secure and to check for extensions.
