3 BAGGER IN CEDAR HAMMOCK FIRE DISTRICT

Just after 11pm Saturday night Cedar Hammock Fire District was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at the Aaron Lakes Apartments just off Cortez Road. On arrival units found fire through the roof and blowing out a number of windows. This was only the beginning of will turn out to be a very complex incident, an adult with a partially amputated leg another adult trauma and 4 pediatric traumas. The 4 pediatric traumas were flown to a burn center in Tampa. The Apartments were older wood type construction where some of the exterior stairways burned off limiting access. All apartments in the complex were evacuated and residents gathered at a nearby bowling alley. Cedar Hammock Fire District was assisted by the City of Bradenton. West Manatee and Southern Manatee Fire District. Residents from sixteen units were displaced, the Red Cross was on scene offering assistance. Manatee County EMS set up the RAPTOR unit for rehab. The fire is under investigation by State Fire Marshalls Office.
