Long Beach, N.Y. — October 31 — The City of Long Beach New York Fire Department, 1 West Chester St., responded at 4:35 p.m. to a report of a kayak believed to have two occupants in distress in Reynolds Channel. A command post was established at Lindell Blvd. and the bay, and a coordinated water search was conducted.
The kayak was located drifting and unoccupied. After further interviewing, it was determined the caller had mistaken the kayak seats for people, and the kayak had likely come loose from a dock. No persons were found in distress.
