Lawrence, N.Y. — October 12 — Early Sunday morning, the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department responded mutual aid to Hewlett for a working fire on Franklin Avenue. Hewlett’s Chief of Department arrived to find heavy smoke in a 1½-story private dwelling and transmitted the working fire. Ladder Company 325 responded as the second-due truck, assisting with interior operations.
Crews advanced lines, located the fire in a bedroom, and confined it to the room of origin. Searches throughout the home were completed with no occupants found. The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause. All units returned to service in under an hour.
