October 23, 2025 — At approximately 10:51 a.m., the Volunteer Fire Company of Western was dispatched to a report of a structure fire after smoke was seen coming from a residence.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that a microwave located above the stove had caught fire. The homeowner quickly extinguished the flames using a fire extinguisher before crews arrived. Firefighters then conducted a thorough check for extension into the kitchen cabinets and attic to ensure the fire had not spread.
Ventilation was established to remove smoke from the home, and the situation was brought under control without further incident.
Responding units included Rescue 1, Engine 2, Rescue 2, and Tanker 3, with a total of 10 members on scene.
The department commended the homeowner’s quick actions and reminded residents to always have working fire extinguishers readily available in their kitchens.
