November 1, 2025 — EMTs from the Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Department participated in a Respiratory Emergencies CORE Continuing Medical Education Course on Saturday morning, led by CIC and Paramedic Ryan Ward at the Jim Spellman Training Center.

The training, held at the start of respiratory illness season, focused on recognizing and managing respiratory distress and related emergencies, ensuring EMTs are fully prepared to respond to an expected increase in such calls.

A key highlight of the session was the introduction of DuoNeb, a newly approved medication for Basic Life Support (BLS) agencies. The addition of this treatment expands the department’s ability to deliver advanced prehospital respiratory care to residents of the Town of Westmoreland.

The department thanked all participants for their dedication, noting that ongoing education and training are vital to maintaining the highest standard of emergency medical service in the community.
