WHITESBORO, October 21, 2025 — The Whitesboro Volunteer Fire Department hosted 46 firefighters Tuesday evening for a Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY) training and education session, led by Instructor Tom Basher of Meridian Training Associates.

The class focused on the modern challenges facing volunteer fire departments, exploring topics such as fire behavior in today’s structures, firefighter safety, command strategies, and the importance of fundamental firefighting principles — or as Basher emphasized, “putting the wet stuff on the red stuff.”

Whitesboro Fire expressed gratitude to the officers and members who helped organize and support the event, including Assistant Chief Lenhardt, Deputy Chiefs Glenn and Althoff, Captain Robinson, Safety Officer McQueen, Firefighters Ray Daviau and Chuck Gibbs, and Chaplain Father John.

“This type of training strengthens our skills, safety, and teamwork,” the department said. “We’re proud to host such a valuable program for our fellow firefighters.”
