Woodgate Fire Quickly Contained Brushfire Near Homes
October 10, 2025 — Around 4:00 p.m. Friday, the Woodgate Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a rapidly spreading brushfire on Daywood Road, behind the White Lake Inn.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an unimproved wooded area—approximately 100 by 100 feet—burning out of control between two residential structures. The fire was quickly advancing toward both homes.
Crews deployed large volumes of water to suppress and extinguish the flames, bringing the fire under control in a short time. Firefighters remained on scene for about an hour and a half to ensure that no smoldering or hidden fires remained beneath the dry foliage.
The blaze is believed to have been caused by a resident burning yard debris. While securing the area, crews also located an unattended campfire in a nearby yard, which was promptly extinguished.
Chief Sege issued a reminder that a statewide burn ban remains in effect across New York State, urging residents to use caution.
“If you’re cooking outdoors or burning wood in a fire pit, you must stay with your fire at all times and be aware of wind conditions,” Chief Sege emphasized. “The recent fire in Piseco Lake is a powerful reminder of how quickly flames can get out of control.”
The department thanked its members for their swift and coordinated response and urged the community to follow fire safety regulations to prevent future incidents.
