Willington, CT — October 28 — Stafford Fire Department No.1, Inc., operating out of Station 145 at 9 Colburn Road in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, was dispatched to address a residential structure fire on River Road in Willington, where the unit supplied essential water support and deployed additional personnel to bolster local fire crews.

Squad 145 was deployed to the tanker fill station situated at the hydrant located before the Stafford Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF), an operation that facilitated the water supply requirements for personnel engaged at the fire scene.

Additional Stafford Fire Department units were dispatched to Willington, where they functioned in tandem with local firefighting personnel and mutual aid companies. This operation necessitated rigorous inter-agency coordination to bolster suppression initiatives while ensuring a reliable water supply remained available.

Local accounts indicate that the blaze was reported on River Road in the 700 block around 9:55 p.m. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered intense fire conditions with multiple propane tanks directly exposed to the flames. Utilizing a transitional attack strategy, the teams successfully contained the fire and halted its progression. By approximately 10:32 p.m., the incident had been brought under control.

Firefighting crews maintained their presence at the scene through the early morning hours to execute thorough overhaul and wet-down procedures. Although residents were successfully evacuated following activation of smoke alarms, no injuries were sustained among either occupants or emergency personnel. The origin of the incident continues to be examined by both state and local fire authorities.

This event underscored the critical importance of mutual aid and dependable water supply operations when combating fires within residential structures.
