Freeport Firefighters Rescue Four from Early-Morning Apartment Fire

FREEPORT, NY - At 5:47 a.m. on October 22nd, the Freeport Fire Department was dispatched to a reported building fire in the area of Grand Avenue and North Main Street. First-arriving units found an occupied multiple dwelling on Jay Street with heavy smoke and fire showing. Chief of Department Anthony Sotira transmitted a working fire and confirmed trapped occupants. Firefighters, joined by mutual-aid partners, rescued four occupants from the building. All suffered smoke inhalation and burns — three with serious injuries and one in critical condition. Northwell Health EMS transported the patients to Nassau University Medical Center.
