Norwalk, Conn. — October 14 — The Norwalk Fire Department responded early Tuesday morning to a structure fire at 44 East Avenue. Firefighters were dispatched at 3:48 a.m. after reports of smoke inside a two-story wood-frame home.
The first-arriving engine located a working fire in the basement. Crews advanced a hoseline inside and quickly knocked down flames contained to a rear corner of the basement. Simultaneous ventilation and search operations confirmed that all occupants had safely exited prior to arrival.
Fire damage was limited to the basement area, though smoke spread throughout the home. Twenty-six firefighters operated at the scene with support from Norwalk Hospital EMS and Norwalk Police. Two residents were displaced but no injuries were reported.
