Canajoharie, N.Y. — October 12 — The Buffalo Maritime Center’s replica of the 1825 Erie Canal boat Seneca Chief made a stop at Lock 14, giving residents a chance to see history in motion. Built by hundreds of volunteers in Buffalo’s Longshed at Canalside, the project celebrates traditional craftsmanship and honors the vessel that first traveled the Erie Canal two centuries ago.
The stop at Canajoharie highlighted New York’s canal heritage and the community teamwork that keeps its history alive. Firefighters from the Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department noted the significance of preserving the state’s waterways, which continue to serve as vital corridors for travel, training, and emergency access.
