West Leyden, N.Y. — October 15 — The West Leyden Volunteer Fire Department hosted a special fire prevention program for home-schooled children and their families, turning classroom lessons into an engaging, hands-on experience. The event included safety discussions, equipment demonstrations, and interactive activities — including the crowd favorite “Duck, Duck, Fire” game — to help reinforce key fire safety messages in a fun, memorable way.

Department members focused on teaching practical steps for fire prevention and emergency response, such as recognizing alarms, planning escape routes, and knowing when to call for help. The program drew strong participation from both students and parents, highlighting community interest in safety education beyond traditional school settings.
