Fort Ann, N.Y. — October 2,3 — Firefighters with the Fort Ann Volunteer Fire Company responded to two motor vehicle crashes requiring extrication over a two-day period, including a three-vehicle collision involving a tractor-trailer rollover and a separate single-vehicle rollover with reported entrapment.

The first crash occurred Friday, October 2, in Fort Ann. The collision involved three vehicles, including a commercial vehicle that overturned. State Police reported that one person suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The crash temporarily closed part of State Route 4 while the investigation and vehicle removal were underway.

Fort Ann firefighters were called to a single-vehicle rollover with entrapment on Saturday, October 3, the department reported.

Both incidents called for extrication operations, with stress on crew coordination, tool use, and scene management.

When dealing with extrication situations, firefighters must first evaluate vehicle stability, spot potential dangers, and select the most secure way to reach and free trapped people. Crews must coordinate with EMS and manage roadway hazards while operating near damaged vehicles.

Traffic control, scene stabilization, and keeping a safe work area are key parts of the operation. Rescue operations safeguard first aid providers, patients, and fellow drivers during work on the road.
