Oceanside, N.Y. — October 24 — At 2:59 p.m., the Oceanside, New York Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Pearl Street, in proximity to Rockville Court, where a minivan struck a utility pole.

Upon their arrival, Chiefs Lynch, Klein, and Sparberg discovered that the pole had fractured at its base, disintegrating into multiple segments. Numerous primary and secondary electrical lines were suspended perilously close to the ground, while both telephone and cable infrastructure had similarly been compromised.

Five individuals occupying the minivan underwent injury assessments and were subsequently transported to the Mount Sinai South Nassau emergency room for further evaluation.

Rescue Truck 2441 and Fire District ambulances 242 and 242A arrived at the scene accompanied by the chiefs, while Nassau County Police Department Ambulance 2364 and East Rockaway Ambulance 4081 provided additional support to facilitate patient transport. PSEG Long Island was mobilized to the site to execute urgent repairs on the compromised utility infrastructure.

The incident necessitated a multi-agency response, involving the synchronized efforts of fire personnel, emergency medical services, law enforcement, and utility technicians. PSEG Long Island stipulates that any electrical lines observed as downed or hanging low must be presumed live; consequently, both first responders and the general public are required to maintain a strict safety perimeter until the utility company formally verifies that the area is secure. The headquarters of the Oceanside, New York Fire Department was located at 65 Foxhurst Road in Oceanside.
