October 02, 2025 - As drought conditions continue to impact the area, members have remained alert and ready while also preparing for the seasonal shift and the types of calls that accompany cooler weather.

On Thursday evening, the department conducted a training session focused on chimney fires and pellet stove emergencies. Following a short classroom review, crews suited up and completed several hands-on training evolutions that emphasized aerial ladder placement, chimney operations, and property conservation.

The drill, designed with a creative and realistic approach, utilized a chimney prop, simulated smoke, and scenario-based objectives to give every participant the opportunity to practice, refresh, and refine their skills.

As the department looks ahead to the coming months, it reminds homeowners to keep safety in mind with a few important chimney safety tips:

Have chimneys and stoves inspected and cleaned annually by a professional.

Burn only seasoned, dry wood to minimize creosote buildup.

Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors regularly to ensure they’re working properly.

Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it.

The department encourages everyone to stay safe, stay prepared, and take some time this fall to get ready for the season ahead.
