PATERSON, NJ - Shortly before 10:30 P.M. on October 23rd, and recently after a two-alarm fire on Getty Ave. was controlled, Paterson Fire Dispatch was notified by a Prospect Firefighter of a working fire on Lafayette Street. Units arrived to heavy fire on the second-floor of a vacant two-and-a-half-story frame dwelling with a very close exposure on the 'D' side. Flames extended to the attic area and as conditions worsened, a second-alarm was transmitted and all members were withdrawn.

Multiple outside lines, as well as a ladder pipe knocked the visible flames down, but the fire continued to spread within the structure. Heavy smoke blanketed the area. Parts of the roof began to collapse and a tower ladder was put into operation. Eventually, the smoke began to lighten and members returned to an offensive attack. Companies reported no extension to the exposure. No serious injuries were reported.
