Botsford, CT— October 13: Early on Monday morning, Botsford Fire Rescue was called to a brush fire that was reportedly occurring close to a home. All of Newtown's fire departments responded as the call was upgraded to a structure fire in less than a minute. Before the fire could spread, the homeowner used a garden hose to put it out after a neighbor saw flames on the side of the house. When the crews arrived, they checked to make sure the fire was extinguished, did some minor repairs, and made sure the house was not extended.
The Newtown Fire Marshal’s Office investigated and determined the cause to be discarded fireplace embers that were still hot. The fire was ruled accidental.
