Sturbridge, Mass. — October 16, 2025 — The Sturbridge Firefighters Local 170 continued Fire Safety Month outreach this week with visits to Sturbridge Early Learning Academy, Green Acres Daycare, and Sturbridge Nursery School. Firefighters spent time teaching young children the importance of safety through the theme “Firefighters Are Our Friends.”

Crews introduced basic fire safety habits — including staying low during smoke, closing doors before sleeping, and knowing how to call 9-1-1 — while helping kids feel comfortable around firefighters and their gear. Students also had the chance to tour fire apparatus and receive take-home materials that combined fun with fire safety education.
