Yorktown, NY - Firefighters from the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department deployed specialized firefighting foam to extinguish a heavily involved vehicle fire Sunday morning after burning fuel threatened the roadway.
The department was alerted at 8:59 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026, for a reported vehicle fire along Underhill Avenue. Car 2532, along with Engines 272, 273, and 274, responded to the scene and encountered a passenger vehicle engulfed in heavy flames.
Crews stretched an initial attack hoseline to initiate direct suppression. As firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control, they encountered a compromised fuel line and tank that began feeding flammable liquids into the fire. Responders rapidly transitioned to a foam operation, blanketing the leaking fuel to smother the fire and suppress volatile vapors.
Once the fire was completely extinguished and the hazard mitigated, the scene was turned over to the Yorktown Police Department for traffic control and vehicle recovery.
