Millwood, NY - Volunteer firefighters from Millwood and Chappaqua, supported by surrounding mutual aid partners, mobilized during the middle of the workday on Monday to bring an active detached garage fire under control before it could cause widespread damage.
First responders were dispatched at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, following initial reports of smoke emanating from a residential outbuilding. Arriving first on the fireground, Chappaqua Fire Department Chief Zezze confirmed a working fire and promptly requested a mutual aid assignment to bring additional personnel and apparatus to the scene.
Millwood Assistant Chief Santone quickly assembled a full interior crew from quarters to join suppression operations. Firefighters located the seat of the fire within the garage, stretched attack lines, and worked methodically to extinguish the main body of fire while checking for and halting any structural extension through the walls and roof frame.
The smooth coordination between the 100% volunteer forces of Millwood, Chappaqua, and regional neighboring agencies ensured adequate daytime fireground staffing, effectively containing the fire and safeguarding the surrounding Town of New Castle community.
