Berkley, MA - On 26 October at approximately 6:40 a.m., the Berkley Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a motor vehicle accident on Route 24 South near mile marker 15 involving a vehicle fire.

Upon arrival, Berkley Fire Department crews discovered a passenger vehicle off the roadway fully engulfed in flames and a tractor-trailer unit in the breakdown lane leaking diesel fuel as a result of the collision.

With assistance from the Freetown Fire Department, firefighters successfully extinguished the vehicle fire while simultaneously containing and mitigating the fuel leak. Fortunately, the occupants of both vehicles were uninjured and declined medical treatment at the scene.

Berkley Fire units remained on-site for approximately three hours as environmental cleanup crews addressed the fuel spill and the tractor-trailer was removed from the area.
