West Deptford, N.J. — October 19 — The West Deptford Fire Department and mutual aid units from Task Force 6 tackled a working house fire at 1100 Harker Avenue shortly after 7:30 p.m. Monday.
The first report stated a fire at the back of the house. The Chief from Woodbury unit 701 was given responsibility for operations and verified severe fire on the C side of the two-story residence. The incident was escalated to a working fire, which dispatched extra companies and resources to the location.
West Deptford Chief 6 led the effort as crews battled to control the fire. Engine 812 and Engine 5, with Ladder 736, Ladder 6, Ladder 926, and Rescue 22, were among the listed units dispatched to the scene.
Ladder Company 736 opened the roof for ventilation while suppression crews operated three handlines on the interior and exterior. Firefighters worked to control the fire and check for extension as companies coordinated their assignments under incident command.
Wenonah and Woodbury Heights fire departments assisted with firefighter safety operations. Their personnel were assigned to the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) group, with a designated RIT supervisor, Division A accountability and safety functions. These assignments helped maintain crew accountability and positioned personnel to respond if a firefighter emergency developed.
A minor injury was reported in the supplied incident information, but no further details were available. Local media reports stated that the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes and that no firefighter injuries were reported. Three residents were receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, and the cause remained under investigation by the Gloucester County Fire Marshal's Office.
