Chautauqua, NY - Firefighters from the Chautauqua Fire Department mounted a rapid single-company response Wednesday morning, extinguishing a fire involving an old trailer partially resting within an abandoned foundation in the rural northeastern sector of the district.

First responders were dispatched at 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, following reports of smoke and active flames rising from a dilapidated trailer. Operating in a rural area without immediate municipal hydrant coverage, the department mobilized a dedicated apparatus group comprising Engine 211, Mini Pumper M212, M213, and Tanker 211 to establish on-scene water supply and attack capabilities.

Upon arrival, volunteer personnel deployed hose lines to address the flames, which were situated in and around the confines of an old foundation. Firefighters coordinated an aggressive knockdown to contain the fire's footprint, preventing potential spread to adjoining dry vegetation and woodland. Chautauqua County Police assisted on scene with local traffic coordination and perimeter security.

Crews completed overhaul operations, secured the site, and returned to quarters by approximately 9:25 a.m. No injuries were reported during the incident.
