Pine City, NY - An evening structure fire prompted a major multi-agency response Monday, bringing together emergency crews and mutual aid companies from two states for an extended six-hour suppression and overhaul operation.

The Webbs Mills Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to the working structure fire just before 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2026. Engine 1831 responded promptly and established command on scene, initiating fire attack lines to contain the blaze within the department's southern tier jurisdiction.

Due to the scale of the fire and the extensive resources needed to maintain continuous water flow and crew rotations, incident commanders requested a multi-department mutual aid task force. Firefighters from Pine City, Southport, Golden Glow, and Wellsburg in Chemung County integrated operations with interstate mutual aid companies responding across the Pennsylvania border, including the Millerton and Big Elm fire departments from Tioga County.

Crews successfully knocked down the fire and remained on site through 11:30 p.m. executing deep overhaul maneuvers, opening hidden voids, and wetting down smoldering debris to prevent rekindling. Responders worked directly with Chemung County Fire Investigators to evaluate the origin and cause of the incident.

Operational support was coordinated by Chemung County 911, the Chemung County Emergency Management Office, Erway Ambulance, and the American Red Cross. All fire companies completed equipment restoration and officially returned to service by 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
