Trumbull, CT - Two motorists were taken to the hospital Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision that left one car overturned beneath the underpass at Merritt Boulevard and Woodcrest Avenue.

First responders from the Nichols Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 3:32 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, deploying Rescue 300 and Squad 309 to evaluate the reported rollover. Upon arrival, crews located the two damaged vehicles in the underpass roadway and confirmed that all occupants had exited and that there was no active entrapment inside the overturned cabin.

Firefighters immediately stabilized the vehicles, handled fluid spill management, and established roadway safety zones to protect oncoming traffic through the underpass.

Emergency medical technicians and paramedics from Trumbull EMS treated two patients on the scene before transporting both individuals to local medical centers for further evaluation and care.

Fire crews remained on site to assist towing services and clear debris from the Fairfield County corridor before fully reopening the roadway.
