A fast-moving fire destroyed a garage and its contents—including a collection of snowmobiles—on Thursday afternoon at 2629 Lovers Lane in the town of Boonville.

Emergency responders were alerted around 5:00 p.m. when New York State Police and a passerby reported heavy smoke near New York State Route 12 and Potato Hill Road. Upon arrival, state troopers discovered a working garage fire that had already extended into nearby woods and an adjacent wood pile.

The Boonville Fire Department was dispatched immediately, triggering mutual aid responses from the Constableville, Remsen, and Floyd fire departments, along with Boonville and Constableville EMS. The Floyd Fire Department, which happened to be nearby retrieving a tanker from a local repair shop, also diverted to assist with water transport.

Firefighters laid hose lines from the nearest hydrant at Route 12 and Lovers Lane up the driveway to combat the flames while setting up a tanker shuttle operation nearby. Boonville Power responded to the scene to cut electricity to the structure safely.

Crews brought the blaze under control by 5:55 p.m. The garage and all stored contents—which included various tools and several snowmobiles—were declared a total loss.

Also assisting on scene were the Boonville Police Department, New York State Police, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). No injuries were reported.
