— October 11 — Shortly before 11 a.m., firefighters responded to a reported house fire on Bayard Road. Sunday following a Deputy Chief's arrival, smoke was visible from the building.
The alarm level was raised to first-alarm, adding Franklin Township fire units and mutual-aid teams to the response.
Engine 26-1, from Elizabeth Avenue Volunteer Fire Company, Station 26, was the first-due engine and laid a hoseline to the fire, found in a rear room of the residence. Firefighters moved the hose line and put out the fire, while other Engine 26 crews searched inside to check for people.
The fire was contained to the room where it originated, according to the department’s report. The primary searches were conducted as crews worked to address the fire and check the residence for anyone who might have remained inside.
